WireHead Practices Herringbone

Craft ADD or Multi-task Crafting allows me to bounce around in my jewelry work. One day, I'm at the torch, another day, will find me surrounded by spools of wire with pliers and cutters in hand. I'm enamored of weaving with glass and wire. I've wanted to download a few of Eni Oken's tutorials to try. I especially like the Herringbone Weave and it's free! For practice like this, I use an unsaleable bead (in this case, it's the color and stringer on it) with cheap craft wire. Once I get the technique down, I'll try it with good beads and wire. Here's a second try at it.

Not perfect but worth another practice or two then I can move on and use good beads and wire - or better yet, I'll move on to another tutorial!

Have you tried any new techniques lately?

Aw, why do you tempt me with all sorts of other things besides the glass? Today is my first day of really being able to work on things since the kids are back in school for a full day. . .and I'm already torn between boro or soft? beads or sculpture? practice sketching? clean house (not likely)? go to town by myself? Now, add play with scrap wire :)

I'm so glad you did this, Cindy, I've been wanting to try it with some of my fused glass, you reminded me - hope you keep posting photos as you work through. Do you think it would work okay with something that has more squared edges?

Brilliant!

Awww, Angela, don't let me cause a dilemma for you. The wire can wait or be done while you're waiting in the dr.'s office (it's portable that way) I've got a glass heart so go to the torch! Soft or Boro is enough of a dilemma :-)

Hi Lynn,

Yes, you can do this with flat squared glass - I'd router the edges so the base wire goes in there nice and tight. I've got a routered piece in my Flickr.

Have fun with it!

Fabulous weaving Cindy! I have quite a few of Eni's tutorials - the wire work with glass really appeals to me too, although I've yet to attempt anything further than a simple wrapped loop.
