Talk Back and An Immortal Corsage

Today I want to talk back. I really appreciate the comments!

Tuesday's post about the "money shot" surprised me. When I'm surprised by the comments I receive, I've learned something. I'm starting to feel the white background is boring and was sure that the roses background would make the charm more appealing. Seems not. Surprise. (It does make me wonder about my ability to have the "my fingers on the pulse" of what the trends are.) I guess white isn't boring after all!

So I'm going to reveal a deep dark not so secret secret today - I love crochet. I love to make it and I love to admire it. So handmade lace either crochet or of late, I've been trying to teach myself to do needle tatting.

Why? You ask.

Because I've been drooling over a needle tatted bracelet for about a year - My Immortal Corsage made by TotusMel on Etsy. (Photo courtesy of TotusMel's shop.)

I'm completely in love with it! I finally decided enough drooling it was time to take action! I bought it.

Lovely work isn't it? Amazing how something this exquisite is made with humble thread and a long blunt end needle. If you're interested in trying it out yourself, you can buy crochet thread at the local craft store but you'll have to go online to Handy Hands to order a tatting needle.

Are you smitten with another craft? Are you learning something new or buying?

Hi Cindy! I somehow missed that post...sorry! But I would agree with all the others, the white shows the detail better. Sometimes I think that the color competes, and also casts a hue on your work, that is unintentional. I just bought some interesting slate tiles for less than $2 each at a local home improvement store. I like using that as my background since the surface is natural and interesting. I think you just need to find what works best for your art and then stick with it.

I love all things paper, but I am not a scrapbooker. I am in awe of all the awesome art bead artists out there, like yourself. I have no special talent making anything, but I love to bring the beauty of the artisan made pieces to life! I would like to feature more and different art beads and discover some new artists as well!

Thanks for the inspiration...by the way, did I miss what you ended up calling that piece?

Enjoy the day!

That is beautiful, Cindy! I love working with fibers and wire. I am trying to figure out how to combine the two. That should be interesting!

I crochet, and I love it. I too would love to learn needle tatting, but it seems that I just never have the time. I may have to set aside some time this winter and give needle tatting a whirl. Maybe I can tat a piece of lace big enough to paint over and make my car stripe....what an idea!!!
