Yeah, I could do the traditional skulls for the Day of the Dead but I'm choosing quirkiness in form of crochet.
Toshwerks made me smirk when I saw their Pincushion Queen Doll
and their Toxic Boy.
Both are characters in Tim Burton's 2005 book, The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories. I find inspiration in Tim Burton's work as you can see in the mixed media, glass and resin skully beadz I made after visiting the MoMA.
Quirky, yes.
Fun, definitely!
If you'd like to crochet up some quirkiness, how about a skulls and crossbones scarf from JudesCreations?
Get your hooks out! It's time to be quirky!

Fun Color in Crochet
Ok gang, I just had to show a picture of this! Magda Sayeg of Knitta, Please! made this Smart Car Cozie for a festival in Italy. It combines crochet (my fav!) with another fav, the Smart Car and supplies loads of color inspiration. It's in the spirit of yarn crafts in unexpected places. LOve it!
What about you?

Wednesday Wire: Crochet to Make a Statement
Designers are combining my two loves, wire and crochet to create lovely statement necklaces. Check out this lovely....
Vintage Inspired Pearl Statement Bib Necklace by Chez Kevito on Etsy (photo courtesy of Chez Kevito.)
Crocheting with wire isn't easy. I've tried several times with no success. I'm not discouraged though. My desire to try again is renewed after seeing how crocheted wire is interpreted into a statement necklace.
If you're an experineced crocheter and want to explore statement necklaces or innovative designs, you might want to check out this book I'm eyeing right now.

Do you crochet? If you do, have you tried wire?

Uniquely Mine for $20
When frozen out of my unheated glass studio, I keep creating to keep the inspiration flowing for when the studio thaws out. Curious about cashmere, I bought a few skeins of Debbie Bliss 100% Cashmere yarn on sale at Webs. I wanted to create a one of a kind piece so I made my own crochet pattern.

Such lovely yarn deserved something special. So I hunted around until I found the perfect finishing touch - a lovely artist made button called A Button Succeeding from Mamacita Beadworks on Etsy.

There's no one with a scarf like mine - created with my own pattern and topped off with a lovely art button. The best part is that it cost me $20!

Off topic post....
Off topic post today - I'm bleary eyed from the events of the weekend and my torch was off for the weekend because of it. Saturday night while my son and his girlfriend were at the homecoming dance at his high school, the phone rang. It was the school calling, my son was hurt and being taken by ambulance to the local emergency room.
It's the worst phone call in the world. It scares the be-jeesus out of you. Thankfully, it wasn't life threatening. He had dislocated his knee when he slid on the dance floor. Spent Saturday night and early Sunday morning at the emergency room while they put him to sleep to push the bone back into place. He's in a soft cast now for the next four weeks.
I didn't feel sleep deprived yesterday but it's caught up with me this morning. No sleeping in today and a late sign language interpreting job tonight. Hopefully, I'll catch up and post a little later in the week.
I did get a chance to post to my crochet blog this past weekend....you can pop on over there if you'd like!
