When Temptation Hits....

January hits and the glass suppliers post their sales. It's a great time to pick up your favorite glass colors and try some new ones.

BUT

It IS January and that means INVENTORY.

Blech.

So when I'm feeling I really need that extra pound of transparent ink blue, I go into my studio and look at my stock of glass rods. I've got to count each and every one of them.

One by one.

It's a good way to resist temptation.

What do you do to resist over-buying for your art?

Took me a long time, but I finally learned that I don't need to order lots of colors for what I like to do. Dark ivory, turquoise, and Nile green are my standards. The others are beautiful (even all those different corals, LOL), but I still have lots of them here and there that haven't been used up in almost three years.

Now, if I could learn the same restraint when it comes to plain old pens, pencils, and paper :)

I find that I over-restrain on things I need, but impulse-buy things I don't need. So basically, I have a lot of crap but not necessities (this applies to my life & my glass). *eyeroll*

What a pretty pretty picture :)
I don't indulge very often, but I did just purchase some odd lot green that doesn't even sell well for me when I make beads with it. Isn't that idiotic??
I don't care~I love the color.

It's truly hard to restrain. I just look at the checkbook. That helps. Dang it! I still have checks, though!

Ahhh distance makes the restraint so easy for me!
When I look & drool over all the sale glasses, make my choices & then load them into my cart I marvel at how much glass I can get for so little money.

3lbs glass $34.25 - shipping here $35.75. It really is easy to resist temptation ;o)

Cindy - your post made me laugh - it was the Ink Blue that tempted me, just briefly, in the first place also.

Hi Sweetwater!

Oooooo green my eyes are just rolling back into my head thinking of all the pretty shades of green there are! Buy all the green glass you want - it IS a pretty color and I'm sure you make lovely beads from it!

Hi Mallory,

Sounds like you have a way to resist - I tend to get caught up in the color and do I have that? No! Then I NEED it! I had to stop reading the glass boards because we glassies work ourselves into a frenzy over a new color and I definitely join in to the mob mentality - why did I buy that lichen? It's not a very attractive color! It was MOB Mentality! LOL!

Yikes, $35 for shipping???? Wow Deb that's a way to resist for sure!

I love ink blue - I have it in all the available shades - why? I don't know why.

Mob mentality! ;-)
